Mother Nature may be teasing us lately with her cold winds and white snowy tricks, but this week’s warmer weather reminds us that autumn is still here and thank goodness for that! It just happens to be my favorite time of the year. Whether I’m celebrating a birthday or a wedding anniversary, it is the season where I feel most inspired to dress up, not just in Halloween costumes, but in fabulous fall fashion trends.
The crisp, yet mild fall air is perfect weather for sweater dresses; warm enough to show legs and cool enough for layers. I’m so glad this look is back; it was my absolute favorite thing to wear in the early 80’s. How old am I you wonder; wouldn’t you like to know? That one is for a whole other blog.
Today I'm modelling this gorgeous black and white plaid knit; so chic. Its faux leather front pockets and trimmed collar brings style to its simplicity. As a daytime look, wear it with a light lip and ankle booties. A touch of gold is all you need to polish it up. Top it off with a long coat and a boxy bag to add sophistication at work or at your kids after school play. It’s everything to make you want to fall in love with easy and comfy.
Turn this look to date night worthy as quick as you can say “chocolate martini please!” This dress doesn’t have to be as sweet as your cocktail. Pair it with a smoky eye, bright lip, a large bold necklace and sling back metallic heels for an edgy allure. A short black faux leather jacket and a textured top-handle bag give a ladylike appeal and is the perfect combination to rock it on an evening out on the town.
Whether rain or shine or drifts of snow, my spirit will hold on as long as it can to autumn’s season; until December 21st that is. And if we happen to fall to an early winter, then I’ll just swap for a warmer coat, thicker tights and higher boots. Style is compromise and knowing how to wear it!
