SPRING FASHION

Updated: Aug 3, 2018

Spring is finally here! Good-bye turtle necks; see you later snow boots; hello capris and camis!

This month is all about my collaboration with Boutique Manteaux Madame aka Mrs. Coats on Champlain Street in Dieppe and her stylish spring collection. She is not only known for her amazing and unique coat selection, but now carries day, evening and formal wear. You can find brand names like Bali, Lavena, Papillon and sizes in plus, regular and petite to accommodate all body types. Her elegant inventory mostly caters to the middle age woman, but this Style Coach was determined to work her magic and create a look that would suit not only the retiree, but the working woman and the stay at home mom.

As my vision grew bigger, Angela came to mind and the perfect choice as this blog’s model. She is a wife, a mother of two and a working woman; who, like most of my clients, struggle to find stylish outfits that fit their personality, life style and flatter their changing body. When I ask my clients why they need a Style Coach, I always get the same answer: “Being so busy, I’ve lost my style. I want to look fun, stylish, confident and put together.”

The key to a great outfit is creating the right combo. My #1 rule is to combine a neutral piece with color and a print. Pastels are always popular in spring and look refreshing against Angela’s fiery red hair and fair complexion. As much as she had total confidence in me as a stylist, “This cardigan looks very mémère to me”, she whispered, heading to the dressing room. “Are you sure it will look good on me”? I giggled as I told her my #2 rule; don’t be afraid to try things on. “Things will often look different on you than on the hanger”. “I sure hope so,” she said, as she quickly changed into what turned out to be her new favourite outfit for teatime, grocery shopping, lunch date and picking up the girls from dance class!

With a detailed design on the lower pant leg, the multi-colored large striped cardigan and the small pleats on the white blouse, jewellery had to be kept to a minimum to nail this look. Less is more! A bold yellow citrine ring, a solid gold bangle bracelet, a sleek wavy hairstyle and soft makeup kept this look clean, simple and young. Remember, it’s not what you wear it’s how you wear it!
